Men Ranked 13th in Latest USTFCCCA Rankings

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Despite a NCAA provisional qualifying performance over the weekend, the Lake Erie College men's track and field team dropped two spots in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Indoor Top 25 Computer Rankings released Tuesday (Jan. 24).

The Storm men are currently ranked 13th, down from 11th in last week's rankings, and are one of four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams in the Top 25.  Lake Erie is 10th in the Midwest Region. 

Last week's SPIRE North Coast Open was the team's first competition of 2012 and the first since Dec. 10.  Headlining Lake Erie's performance was freshman Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chilli) who set school records in the long jump and triple jump, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the latter.

The USTFCCCA national team rankings will be complied by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons.  The preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data is taken from previous seasons as well as the current season.

According to the USTFCCCA, the purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national-team race.

 The Storm is back in action this weekend at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Track and Field Open Friday and Saturday, Jan., 27-28, at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
