PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Mercy College broke open a close game with nine straight goals to close out the first half and went on to an 18-7 win over the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team in East Coast Conference action on Saturday (April 17) in Purchase, N.Y.

Freshmen Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored twice in the opening five minutes for the Storm (5-3, 1-1 ECC), who trailed just 4-3 at the 20-minute mark. But the Mavericks (-4, 2-2 ECC) closed out the half on a 9-0 run, highlighted by three goals from Kerry Goodnight to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.

Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewilt), the nation's leading scorer, scored three times in the second half for Lake Erie, but Brianna Horn had two for the Mavs to prevent any hopes of a comeback for the Storm. The loss was Lake Erie's first in conference play.

Horn finished with five goals and two assists while Goodnight had four goals for Mercy.

The Storm will have a short turnaround as it looks to bounce back on Sunday, April 18, at second-ranked and conference-leader C.W. Post.
