Women's Lacrosse Slotted Eighth In ECC Preaseason Poll

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was picked to finish eighth out of nine teams in the East Coast Conference Preseason Poll in a vote conducted by the league's coaches released Thursday (Feb. 9).

Lake Erie, which is an associate member of the ECC in men's and women's lacrosse, received 19 points in the voting.  The Storm was picked ahead of Bridgeport University, which they beat 17-2 at Bridgeport last season.  Lake Erie came in just behind St. Thomas Aquinas which was picked seventh with 25 points. The Spartans defeated the Storm 12-11 last season.

Lake Erie finished 2011 3-13 overall and 1-7 in ECC play.  That followed up a 7-7 overall record and a 2-5 mark in ECC play in the Storm's inaugural season in 2010.  Lake Erie will be under new leadership this season with Head Coach Jillian Howley in charge of the program. 

With seven first place votes and 79 total points, C.W. Post claims the top spot on the 2012 poll. Last season, the Pioneers run of five straight appearances in the Division II Final Four came to an end despite finishing with a 13‐4 record overall.

The Preseason Offensive Player of the Year award went to Dowling's Brooke Witkowski and senior Chelsea Donaldson of C.W. Post was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Lake Erie opens the 2012 season Feb. 25-26 against Colorado Mesa University and Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
