PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse cruised to a 21-2 victory over Alderson-Broaddus College in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest on Monday (April 22) in Painesville.
Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) led the Storm (11-4, 5-1 GLIAC) in scoring with five goals while also collecting six draw controls. Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) led all players with nine points, coming on three goals and six assists and had four groundballs and four draw controls. Michaela Schock (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was second on the team with four goals and added one assist. Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta/National Sport Academy) and Kim Dang (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) had two goals apiece. Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored one goal and assisted on three more. Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt), Brittany Rabuano (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Allison Trombetti (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) had a goal and an assist apiece. Defenseman Alex Freeman (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored her first career goal in the game and also collected three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
The Storm had firm control of the game from start to beginning, allowing only one shot from Alderson-Broaddus (0-11, 0-6) in the first half as Lake Erie gained a 16-0 advantage.
Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario/Anderson C.V.I.) picked up her tenth win of the season in net. The Storm defense allowed only two successful clear attempts from Alderson-Broaddus out 11 opportunities (18%).
The Lake Erie offense was efficient, putting 32-of-34 shots on net (94%) as they outshot the Battlers 34-4. The Storm had advantages in many statistical categories including groundballs (20-5), draw controls (22-3) and caused turnovers (9-1).
Cynthia Rice led the Battlers with one goal and one assist while Stephanie Gertsakis had one goal.
The Storm return to action Friday (April 26), hosting Walsh University in a GLIAC contest.
