Storm Wins Big Over Notre Dame

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team defeated Notre Dame College today (March 14th), 17-7.  With the win the Storm is 1-1 on the season, and with the loss Notre Dame falls to 0-3 overall.

Lake Erie opened the scoring on the opening possession of the game when Cecilla Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored on the first shot of the game to make the score 1-0.  The Storm added to the lead a minute later when Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) scored off of an assist by Taylor Izzo (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) for a 2-0 Storm advantage.  Izzo scored from a free shot position, to make the score 3-0 with 27:32 left in the first half.  Thirty seconds later the Storm added a goal by Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) from a free shot position.  Andersen and Izzo combined for another goal as the Storm gained a 5-0 advantage.  Lake Erie gained a 6-0 lead when Samantha Gyrba (Okotoks, Alberta / National Sport Academy) scored from a free shot position.  Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) found the back of the net off an assist by Izzo, to make the score 7-0 in favor of Lake Erie with 18:06 left in the first half.  Notre Dame ansered with a goal and made the score 7-1.  Crawford scored her second of the game, and made the score 8-1.  Quiggle scored her second goal of the game to make the score 9-1.  The Storm found the back of the net when Crawford scored off of an assist by Gryba.  Izzo scored her second of the day from a free shot position to make the score 11-1 with 11:01 to play in the half.  The Storm added three more goals before the half, and entered intermission with a 14-1 lead. 

Quiggle and Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored goals to open the second half for the Storm.  The Falcons rattled off three straight goals before Crawford scored the Storm's 17th goal.  The Falcons ended the game on a 3-0 run but it was not enough to overcome the Storm lead.

In net for the Storm was Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario / Anderson C.V.I.), she faced 15 shots, 11 of which were on goal, made four saves, and allowed seven goals. 

The Storm was led by Crawford who had four goals in the game, and a draw control.  In addition to Crawford, Andersen, Izzo, and Quiggle each had three goals for the Storm. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Tuesday (March 17th) when they travel to take on Slippery Rock at 5 P.M.
