PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team opened the home portion of their 2016 home schedule against Gannon University Friday (March 11).

After the Golden Knights scored a quick goal, Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y./Aurburn) provided the answer for the Storm a minute later.    After a defensive stalemate for five minutes, the Golden Knights took the lead on a free position shot.  The Storm once again provided the answer for the Storm when Anna Spin found Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) for the goal.

Tied at two, the Golden Knights gained the lead once again on a free position shot. After Gannon scored to take a two goal lead, Haley Anderson (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) dodged through traffic to score the Storm's third goal.  The Golden Knights won the ensuing draw but turned it over, leading to a Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y./Corning) goal to tie the game at four.

After another defensive stalemate, Anna Spin found Mathis to give the Storm their first lead of the game, 5-4.  Minutes later, the Golden Knights scored on a drive, tying the game once again.  After Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont. Anderson C.V.I.) made a save, the Golden Knights got a yellow card.  The Storm took advantage of the extra man opportunity when Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) found Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post East) for the goal to give them a 6-5 lead at the half.

The Storm struck first in the second half when Cecilia Spin found Crawford for an early goal. A minute later, Cecilia Spin found the back of the net once again, this time on a free position shot.  The Storm continued to roll in the second half when Crawford scored for the third time, giving them a four goal advantage.

The Golden Knights halted the Storm run with a goal to cut the lead to three. However, Mathis got the Storm back on track with a goal.  The Golden Knights mounted a comeback, scoring four straight to tie the game at four.

Tied at 10, the Golden Knights scored on a close shot to take the lead. Two minutes later, Mathis found Crawford in front of the net for a goal, tying the game at 11.

The back-and-forth continued as Gannon scored two quick goals to regain the lead, 13-11.

Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) cut the lead to one with three minutes remaining in the game.

The Storm threatened late in the game but the Golden Knights caused a turnover and ran out the clock.

The Storm was led by Crawford as she had four goals, three groundballs, and a draw control.  Mathis pitched in with three goals, one groundball, and a draw control.  Crawford lead the defense with two caused turnovers.
