PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Former Lake Erie College baseball player Mike Morgan '12 has escaped the cold winters of Ohio for the sunshine of California as a member of the Canada A's in the four-year old independent California Winter League.

Morgan, a pitcher and infielder during his career with the Storm, has appeared in each of the season's first four games on the mound for the A's. He has an 0-1 record and 6.35 ERA in 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and three walks in his four appearances, including two starts.

As a four-year member of the Storm, Morgan posted a 2-5 record with two saves in 25 career relief appearances. He also batted .270 with three home runs and 34 runs batted in.  His best year was in 2010 when he hit .283 with two homers and 23 RBI as one of the team's regular infielders.

Based in Palm Springs, the eight-team California Winter League is a winter destination for players looking for advanced instruction and the opportunity to be noticed by professional scouts.  In each of the league's previous three seasons, over 50% of the players who participated in the CWL season received professional contract offers.
