Storm Falls at Southern Indiana for Second Straight Day

EVANSVILLE, IND. – David Toth threw six innings of shutout ball and was backed by a pair of five-run innings as host University of Southern Indiana defeated the Lake Erie College baseball team 14-2 in the second game of their season-opening series Saturday (Feb. 23).

Toth (1-0) took a no-hitter into the fifth and allowed just one hit in his six innings of work. He walked one and struck out seven.  The Screaming Eagles (2-0) offense plated 10 runs between the third and fourth innings – aided by four Lake Erie errors - to break open what was a 1-0 game.

The Storm (0-2) got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the eighth with seniors Patrick Kilway (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) and Cody Blood (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) each bringing in a run.

Colton White went 4-for-5 to lead the USI attack while five other Eagles had two hits apiece.

Senior Logan Nordquist (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) took the loss on the mound as he lasted just 2 1/3 innings.

The teams wrap up their series Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, at 12 p.m. CST (1 p.m. EST).
