TIFFIN, OHIO – Despite another strong performance from senior Logan Nordquist (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance), the Lake Erie College baseball team lost its second one-run game of the weekend, falling to Brent Faber and Tiffin University 2-1 to wrap up a three-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series on Sunday (April 14).
Nordquist (0-7) allowed just two runs on six hits in six innings, striking out four without a walk, but it wasn't enough to best Faber who limited the Storm (8-22, 5-12 GLIAC) to just one run on four hits in seven stellar innings.
After four scoreless frames, Lake Erie broke through in the fifth on an RBI single from sophomore Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby) for a 1-0 lead. The Dragons (17-17, 11-8 GLIAC) responded quickly with three straight hits to start the bottom half of the inning and tying the game at 1-1.
Ryan Williams doubled with two outs in the sixth and scored on a single by Ryan Locke for the go ahead run.
The Storm put a runner on third in the eighth and loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but couldn't get the tying run across. Greg Sombati got out of both those innings unscathed to earn his second save.
Lindgren, who failed to hit a home run for the first time in four games, had a pair of hits and finished the weekend 6-of-12 with eight RBI and three runs scored. Senior Doug Fox (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) followed Nordquist with two innings of scoreless relief, retiring all six men he faced.
Faber (3-2) walked three and struck out nine for Tiffin while Williams led the offense with two hits.
The loss was the seventh one-run loss for the Storm this year. Lake Erie is just 1-7 on the season in one-run contests.
The Storm returns home to host Ohio Dominican University Tuesday, April 16, at 3 p.m.
