GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— The Lake Erie College baseball team was unable to overcome 17th-ranked Grand Valley State University Saturday (April 11) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The Lakers took game one 11-1 and game two 10-3.
The Lakers' offense produced 11 runs before the Storm got on the board in the seventh when a Rutger Luebke (Medina, Ohio/Medina) doubled to bring Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fl./Oakleaf). However it was the only run the Storm plated in the game as they fell in game one.
The Lakers scored six runs before the Storm got on board. In the fifth, Luebke reached base on an error and advanced to second on a Cale Giddings (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North/Akron) single. Carver loaded the bases with a single to right field. Alex Lind (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Elder) was issued a walk, scoring Luebke from third. Plavcan hit into an error, bringing Giddings home to cut the lead to four. However, the Lakers added two in the bottom of the frame.
In the sixth, Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) led-off with a double. Two batters later, Ruebke singled, scoring Lindgren and cutting the lead to seven. Once again, the Lakers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Storm threatened in the final winnings but were unable to bring a run across the plate as they fell in game two.
Giddings led the Storm with two hits in the game. Luebke, Giddings and Lindgren scored for the Storm.
The Storm is back in action Sunday (April 12) to wrap-up the four-game series with the Lakers.
