Storm Falls in GLIAC Doubleheader at Wayne State

DETROIT, Mich. – The Lake Erie College baseball to was unable to overcome Wayne State University as they fell in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday (April 16) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Warriors captured game one 10-5 and game two 11-3.


After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors plated seven runs heading into the fifth.

Louie Peterlin (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) led off the fifth with a double to left field. Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) reached on an error to put runners on the corners.  With two outs, Ryan Grieco (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) earned a walk to load the bases. Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) singled up the middle, bringing Peterlin and Rua home to cut the Warrior advantage to five.  Lucas Raley (Medina, Ohio/Medina Highland) followed up with a double down the right field line, bringing Grieco home.  The Storm kept the momentum going as Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Frances De Sale) doubled down the right field line, scoring Williams and Raley.

The Storm held the Warriors off the board in bottom of the fifth but surrendered three runs in the sixth as the Warriors increased their lead to 10-5.  Raley recorded a single in the top of the seventh but the Storm was unable to overcome the lead.

Raley and Peterlin had two hits apiece for the Storm. DeCamp and Williams drove in two runs apiece.  Five different Storm players scored runs. 


The Warriors scored eight runs over the opening three innings.  After a scoreless fourth and fifth, the Storm got on the board in the sixth.

Raley earned a walk with one out.  He then stole second and made his way home on a throwing error, getting the Storm on the board. 

The Warriors matched the Storm's run in the bottom of the sixth to keep their advantage.

The Storm got back to work in the seventh.  Kody Bledsoe (Elyria, Ohio/Amherst Steele) led off the inning with a homerun to left field.  Rua followed up with a single through the right side. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, he made his way to third on a groundout.  He then came home on a passed ball.  However, the Warriors once again matched the Storm's run total with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

Neither team was able to score in the final two innings as the Warriors finished with the win.

Vince Pitzulo (West Middlesex, Pa./Wilmington Area/Mercyhurst Northeast) pitched 4.1 innings in relief, giving up two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.  Peter Theodos (St. Albans, W. Va./St. Albans) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up no runs and two hits.

The Storm is back in action Sunday (April 17) for the final two games of the series.
