DALLAS-- Cale Giddings of the Lake Erie College baseball team was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division-II Hitter of the Week for his performance during the week of May 3-May 10.
For the week, Giddings (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North/Akron) hit .667 with 17 RBI, 16 hits, 12 runs and six homeruns.
"I am really proud of Cale," said Storm Head Coach Brian McGee. "It was quite an accomplishment for someone to be able to end their college career that way. It is simply magical and could not have happened to a better person."
On May 3 in a doubleheader against Walsh University, Giddings totaled seven hits, six RBI, six runs, three homeruns and a double. In game one, he went two-of-four with three RBI on a pair of homeruns. In game two, Giddings went five-of-five at the plate three RBI, a homerun, a double and four runs.
On May 6 in the first two games of a four-game series at Northwood University, Giddings tallied four hits with five RBI, two homeruns and three runs. In the first game, Giddings went one-of-two with a run and a RBI. He was earned two walks. In game two, he went three-of-four with four RBI and two homeruns.
Giddings ended the week with two more games at Northwood on May 7. In the two games, he totaled five hits with six RBI and three runs. In game one, Giddings went two-of-four with one run and one RBI. In game two, Giddings went three-of-four with five RBI, a double, a homerun and two runs.
Earlier in the week, Giddings was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division Player of the Week.
