Storm Begins 2017 Season at Kentucky State (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College baseball team will commence their 2017 season this weekend on the road. The Storm will play the Kentucky State Thorobreds in doubleheaders on Saturday (Feb. 18) and Sunday (Feb. 19). Saturday's games are at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM and Sunday's games are at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Storm Report: This weekend will be Opening Weekend for the Storm in the 2017 season. Last season, the Storm was 18-29 overall and 14-18 in the GLIAC. The Storm returns two key players on offense. Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) and Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) return after hitting .347 and .344, respectively. David Lemasters (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) returns after being the leading starter last season. Former player Cameron Castro makes his debut with the Storm as head coach this weekend.

Opposition Position: The Thorobreds are currently 2-5 for the 2017 season. Kentucky State split a four game series with Voorhees State last weekend. Artie Santomo is batting .522 so far this year.

Series History: The Storm and Thorobreds have faced off six times and the Storm have won five matchups. Last season, the two teams opened the season with a two game series. The Storm won 7-4 and 6-3 over Kentucky State.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will travel to UNC Pembroke for a three game series next weekend.
