PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College baseball team was commence on a three-game roadtrip with matchups against the Tiffin University Dragons and the Mercyhurst University Lakers this week. Lake Erie will face Tiffin in a GLIAC doubleheader on Tuesday (April 18) and will play Mercyhurst on Wednesday (April 19) in a single nine-inning game.
Storm Report: The Storm takes a 9-26 overall record and a 3-19 GLIAC record to Tiffin. Lake Erie dropped three of four games with the Grand Valley State Lakers at home over the weekend. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) leads the Storm with a .385 batting average. Sam Browning (Cincinnati, Ohio / Archbishop McNicholas) leads the team with 26 runs, 41 hits and six homeruns.
Opposition Position: Tiffin has a 18-17 record overall and a 10-8 GLIAC mark going into the week. The Dragons dropped three of four matchups at Saginaw Valley State last weekend. Devon Fisk leads the Dragons with 42 hits and 26 runs. Mercyhurst is ranked #2 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (MCBWA) poll. The Lakers are 27-2 entering the matchup with the Storm. Chris Gonzalez leads the team with 44 hits and 12 doubles, along with a .463 batting average.
Series History: Lake Erie dropped the first two games of the 2017 season series against Tiffin. Tiffin and Lake Erie split the 2016 season series but the Storm has a 15-9 overall record. The Storm and the Lakers have met six times since 2010 and Mercyhurst has won five of the six matchups.
Storm Forecast: The Storm will return to Painesville for another matchup with the Lakers of Mercyhurst on April 25th.
