Storm Set to Host California (Pa.) (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College baseball team will begin a four game homestand with a rescheduled doubleheader with the California (Pa.) University Vulcans on Wednesday (April 26) afternoon. The Storm and the Vulcans will begin the doubleheader at 2:00 PM.

"It will be good to get back on the field after our weekend off, I anticipate the guys being refreshed and rested," said Storm head coach Cameron Castro. "We've got just twelve games left and we're going to approach those the same we have approached any game all year. There's no pep speech coming from me about playing harder than you have all year or anything. Mainly because that's something we've talked about day in and day out all year. My goal for this team is that they continue to go out over these next two weeks and play our brand of baseball and enjoy being on the field and competing together, that all starts tomorrow and continues against Ashland this weekend."

Storm Report: The Storm enters the doubleheader with a 9-29 record overall and a 3-21 record in the GLIAC. Lake Erie dropped a close 8-7 game at #1 Mercyhurst last week. Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) hit a grand slam in the first inning but the Lakers scored a run in the seventh for the win. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) leads the Storm with a .415 average while Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) is second with a .331 average. Birchmeier leads the team with 14 doubles, and 31 RBI.

Opposition Position: The Vulcans are 18-20 overall after they dropped three-of-four games in a series with Slippery Rock over the weekend. California (Pa.) is led by David Marcus, who leads the team with a .397 batting average, 20 doubles, 42 RBI and 32 walks.

Series History: The two teams have faced off in one series before. The teams met in a four game series in the 2014 season. The Vulcans swept the Storm in the series.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will host Ashland on Saturday (April 29) as a part of a GLIAC home-and-home series this weekend.
