Two Named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention

BAY CITY, Mich.- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the individual and All-GLIAC teams on Wednesday (May 10) night. 

Infielder Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and utility player Sam Browning (Cincinnati, Ohio / Archbishop McNicholas) were both named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.

Birchmeier, a junior, finished with a batting average of .352 as he led the team games played (48), hits (62), doubles (19) and runs batted in (39). Birchmeier finished with 62 hits, that ranks tied for 3rd in the single season ranks. He also set the single-season record for doubles in a season with 19 this season. Birchmeier had nine games of three hits or more. 

Browning was a two-way player for the Storm this season as he appeared in the field at various positions along with some time on the mound. Browning appeared in 47 games this season as he finished with a .324 batting average, good for 3rd on the team. He led the Storm with a .568 slugging percentage. He led the Storm with 36 runs scored, three triples and eight homeruns. Browning was tied for third in the single-season ranks with three triples and was tied for sixth in the homerun ranks. He finished 2nd on the team with 57 hits over the course of the season. He had seven three-hit games this season. Browning also appeared in six games as a pitcher, including two starts. He accumulated 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings as a pitcher. He gave up the 4th fewest amount of hits as a reliever with 17.
