PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team is scheduled to play five games on the road this week as they will face the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds and the University of Findlay Oilers. Lake Erie will play the Greyhounds on Thursday (April 19) in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM. The Storm will play the Oilers in a three game series, starting on Saturday (April 21). The doubleheader will be on Saturday and the single nine inning game will be on Sunday (April 22) with both days starting at 1:00 PM.
Storm Report: The Storm takes an overall record of 12-16-1 to Indianapolis along with a 10-8 G-MAC record. Lake Erie was swept in a three game series at Walsh earlier this week. Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) leads the Storm with 35 hits, eight doubles, three triples and 23 RBI. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Southview) has the team's highest batting average with .329. David Lemasters (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) leads the Storm pitching staff with a 3.46 ERA, 39 innings pitched and 50 strikeouts.
Opposition Position: UIndy has an overall record of 19-14 this season. The Greyhounds split a doubleheader with Purdue Northwest on Tuesday (April 17). Storm Joop leads the UIndy offense with a .333 batting average, 31 runs, 39 hits, ten doubles. The Oilers have an 18-10 overall record and 11-5 G-MAC record. Findlay was defeated by Ashland 18-3 on Tuesday (April 17). Ethan St. Clair has 34 hits and a .318 batting average for the Oilers.
Series History: The Storm and the Greyhounds have met once before in the series. Lake Erie defeated UIndy 4-3 in the 2014 NCAA Regional, the Storm's first NCAA postseason victory. Lake Erie is 12-7 against the Oilers in the series as both teams played in the GLIAC. The teams split the doubleheader in Painesville last season. Both games were 4-2 final scores.
