Baseball Falls in Season Finale

EASTLAKE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team closed out the 2018 regular season with Senior Day at Classic Park on Sunday (May 6) night.

Lake Erie fell in the season finale 16-5 to the Malone University Pioneers.

Malone jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Lake Erie responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) capped three straight singles with a RBI single to right center field.

The Pioneers added five runs in the second and one in the fourth for a 7-1 advantage. A six-run sixth inning pushed the Pioneers lead to 15-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Williams drilled a solo homerun to the left field bleachers.

Lake Erie scored three runs in the eighth inning. Sam Browning (Cincinnati, Ohio / Archbishop McNicholas) doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. On a Blake Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) strikeout, the ball got away from the catcher, Browning scored and Curry reached first. Curry scored on a RBI single by Tyler Hissom (Chippewa Lake, Ohio / Cloverleaf). The third run scored on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt.

Malone closed the scoring with a run in the ninth inning. The Storm fell 16-5 to the Pioneers.

Four different players had two hit games as the Storm piled up 11 hits on the night. Trace Peterson (Medina, Ohio / Medina), Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg), Williams and Browning each had two hits.
