Baseball Scores 14 in Series Opener Against Urbana

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio- The Lake Erie Storm baseball team earned a 14-2 win in the series opener today against the Urbana University Blue Knights. With the win, the Storm increases their season record to 3-4, while Urbana fell to 1-6.

The Blue Knights struck first. With runners on first and second, Urbana hit an RBI double to center. However, the relay from Caleb Waller to catcher Trace Peterson resulted in a big out at home, and Storm pitcher David Lemasters was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam by getting a line-out to second base to end the top of the first inning with the Blue Knights leading 1-0.

Lake Erie raged back by scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Rees Rua led off with a single, and was moved to third on a double hit by Corbin Paxton. Peterson and Nigel Williams both hit back-to-back RBI singles, which gave the Storm the lead. A double-play moved Peterson to third, and scored on a fielding error hit by Caleb Waller. Forrest Longeway singled, putting runners on first and second, which allowed Anthony Jackson the RBI single which scored Waller. Jacob Lozinski then hit a two RBI double before the inning ended with a Storm lead of 6-1. In the bottom of the second, Trace Peterson hit a solo home run, making the score 7-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Caleb Waller hit a three-run home run to right field which made the score 10-1. The middle of the Storm lineup piled on in the fifth with an RBI single by Paxton and an RBI double by Peterson, which extended the lead 12-1. Urbana scored its second run on a SAC fly in the top of the sixth. And the last two runs for the Storm came in the eighth inning. Michael Poole reached on a fielder's choice, and Brandon Boazman drew a walk which put two men on base for Jacob Lozinski. Lozinski earned a two RBI double, which put the Storm on top 14-2.

Lemasters, the ace of the Storm pitching staff, earned his second win of 2019 with today's win over Urbana. The senior allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks, while earning 11 strikeouts in five innings work.

The Storm will finish the three-game series with Urbana tomorrow with a double header beginning at 12pm.
