Alumnus Michael Stryffeler Inks With Seattle Mariners

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Former Lake Erie Storm hurler Michael Stryffeler has recently signed with the Seattle Mariners after an impressive showing with the Lake Erie Crushers. He joins fellow Storm alumni Ryan Rua and Lucas Raley as players who have gone on to ink with Major League Baseball teams.

Stryffeler, a native of Sagamore Hills, played with the Storm from 2015 to 2018. He was an G-MAC All-Conference Honorable Mention his senior year after he struck out 70 batters in 57.0 innings pitched. He struck out 10 or more batters thrice with 13 against Alderson Broaddus.

"Lake Erie made it clear that some things don't go as planned, but it's alright because there's always the next day," said Stryffeler. "And now you know you might just have to work a little harder at one certain thing to make your performance better."

The 6-2 righty did just that and was most recently making his mark in the Frontier League with the Lake Erie Crushers. Stryffeler worked on his mechanics and focused primarily being a relief pitcher. It paid off as he appeared in 11 games and struck out 16 while he sported a 0.00 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched.

Stryffeler was also a teammate of Raley who is currently a top prospect with the Minnesota Twins with their Class AAA International League affiliate the Rochester Red Wings. He will report to and play in the Arizona League with the Peoria Mariners.
