White Team Takes Spring Football Game with Fourth Quarter Surge

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – A 10-0 fourth quarter propelled the White Team to a 16-7 victory over the Green Team in the annual Lake Erie College football Spring Game Saturday afternoon (April 16) at a soggy Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) connected with Patrick Lunney (Mount Shasta, Calif./Mt. Shasta/College of the Siskiyous) for a 15-yard touchdown to put Green up 7-6 midway through the third period.  But White took the lead on a surprising 32-yard field goal by outside linebacker Kevin Chapman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 11:15 left.

Zach Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) broke loose for a 42-yard run down the sideline with just over four minutes to go to seal the win for the White Team.  He led all players with 56 yards on three carries.

Bedevelsky had 52 yards rushing to lead the Green Team and completed eight-of-14 passes for 74 yards.  Rob Boyd (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) was five-of-13 for 97 yards for the White with an interception.

On the White Team's opening possession, Boyd hit Tommy Jackson (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) for a 64-yard gain on first down to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Anthony Zitello (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge/Youngstown State). 

Kameron Alexander (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) gained 43 yards on six carries for Green and Jimmy Phyllis (Salem, Ohio/United Local) caught a game-high three passes for 30 yards. Lunney had two grabs totaling 24 yards.

In addition to the 32-yard field goal and an extra point, Chapman led the White Team with five total tackles. Cameron Bryant (Lorain, Ohio/Admiral King) led the Green Team with four tackles and David Dunne (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) had an interception.
