PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Senior outside linebacker Kevin Chapman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) had a career night in the Lake Erie College football team's 13-10 season-opening win over Gannon University on Thursday night (Sept. 1) and for his efforts was named the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week of the 2011 season. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday (Sept. 6).
Chapman recorded a career-high 14 tackles, including six solo stops. He had 3.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 quarterback sacks. He came up with a big fourth-quarter sack and fumble recovery on Gannon quarterback Daniel Tapscott and also batted down a pass as the Storm (1-0) rallied for its first season opening victory ever.
Chapman is just the second Storm football player - and first defender - to garner GLIAC Player of the Week accolades.
Lake Erie opens conference play on Saturday, Sept. 10, on the road at Michigan Tech. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the live broadcast on ESPN 970 WFUN-AM and www.LakeErieStorm.com.
