COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Lake Erie College senior kicker/punter Sam Marcotte (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) picked up his second "player of the week" award on Wednesday (Oct. 31) when he was named the OhioCollegeFootball.com NCAA FCS/II Special Teams Player of the Week presented by AdvoCare.
Marcotte, who earlier in the week was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Special Teams Player of the Week, set two school records in the Storm's 27-20 overtime win at Walsh on Saturday night. The senior scored Lake Erie's first points by connecting on the longest field goal in school history from 50-yards out. He later added a 20-yard field goal to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Then, with the game tied at 20 with less than a minute left, Marcotte pinned the Cavaliers deep in their own territory with a school-record 54-yard punt that guaranteed overtime.
After going five-for-five, with two field goals and three extra points, Marcotte has now connected on his last 23 kick attempts.
The Storm host Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, Nov. 3, for Senior Recognition Day at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
