GLIAC Releases Preseason Poll, Storm Picked Fifth in South (With Video)

BAY CITY, MICH. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its annual football coaches' preseason poll in conjunction with the release of the conference's media day central website Monday (Aug. 26). The Lake Erie College football team was picked to finish fifth in the South Division.

The Storm, coming off a third consecutive 3-8 (2-7 GLIAC) season a year ago, received 40 points in the voting. Defending division champion and NCAA Playoffs participant Ashland University is the favorite to repeat, with the Eagles (88 points, 10 first-place votes) edging out Ohio Dominican University (80, 4) and the University of Findlay (69, 1).

Walsh University is picked just ahead of Lake Erie with 43 points. Tiffin University (30) and Malone University (21) round out the South Division.

Grand Valley State University was picked to win the North Division with 94 points.  The Lakers were one of six northern teams to receive first-place votes.

The complete conference poll, along with video interviews from each coach and a conference-wide season preview, can be found on the GLIAC Media Day website.

This year marks the fourth-straight season in which the league has launched a media day website to promote the conference. Each head coach filmed a short video segment discussing their respective teams and the upcoming season.

Three GLIAC teams are ranked in the 2013 American Football Coaches Association Preseason Division II Coaches' Poll with Ashland ranked ninth.  Grand Valley State is ranked 14th in the poll while Saginaw Valley State University is ranked 22nd in the nation.

Five other GLIAC teams were listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" category  including Michigan Technological University, Ferris State University, Hillsdale College, Ohio Dominican and Wayne State University.

The Storm faces five of those teams this season.
