PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College sophomore defensive back Tony Andrews (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) added to his honors this week after being named the USA College Football Division-II Defensive Back of the Week as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Divison-II Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Andrews was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 13) after setting a Lake Erie record with four interceptions against nonconference rival Notre Dame College on Saturday (Oct. 12).
His four interceptions helped lift the Storm to a 42-35 victory on the road.
Andrews picked off his first pass in the second quarter and returned it 61 yards to the end zone, though the score was nullified on a penalty. Later in the quarter, Andrews had his second interception to halt a Falcons drive late in the half in Storm territory. In the final minute of the first half, Andrews picked off a pass in the end zone to prevent a touchdown. Andrews had his final interception in the third quarter at the Storm 12-yard line to once again halt a Notre Dame drive.
In addition to his four interceptions, Andrews also made three tackles.
This season, Andrews has five interceptions and a kick returned for a touchdown.
