Offense Reigns Supreme in Spring Game

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College football team held its annual Spring Game Saturday (April 18).

The game featured an alternative scoring system pitting the offense versus the defense.   In the end, the Storm offense won, 58-39.

The Storm defense gained a 10-7 lead in the first half before Donnie Eatmon (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia/Fort Scott CC) scored on a 20-yard run to push the Storm in front, 14-10.

In the second quarter, the Storm defense scored seven straight points on two sacks and a three-and-out to regain the lead, 17-14, before the offense came alive.  Mitchell Hokavar (Perry, Ohio/Perry) found Tyler Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) for a long touchdown pass, followed by a long touchdown run by Brandon Phenix (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee).  Jonathan Bell (Waldorf, Md./West Lake) took off on a quick pass for another long Storm touchdown to give the offense a 39-19 lead at half.

Keith Love (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) opened up the second half for the Storm defense with a safety.  Late in the quarter, David Coleman (Groveport, Ohio/Madison/Kent State) scored on an eight-yard run to bring the offensive lead to 49-27 heading into the fourth.

Nick Szabados (Middletown, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) and Drew Bell (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) picked up sacks early in the fourth to cut the lead to 49-36.  A three-and-out brought the lead to 10.  However, John Banyasz (Columbia Center, Ohio/Columbia) found Mitchel Tilley (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) for a 65-yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach for the defense.

The Storm opens the 2015 season at home against Ashland University on Sept. 5.
