NEW YORK, N.Y.-- Two members of the Lake Erie College football were named to USA College Football 2015 Preseason All-American Teams.
Senior running back Anthony Bilal (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) was named First-Team All-American while junior safety Maurice Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Beechcroft) was a Honorable Mention.
Bilal earned several offseason awards after a terrific junior campaign. He finished third in the Harlon Hill Trophy voting, which is awarded to the top player in Division-II. Bilal also earned First-Team All-American selections by USA College Football, Daktronics, AP Little All-American, Beyond Sports Network and USA College Football, as well as First-Team All-Region honors by Daktronics and Don Hansen. He was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Back of the Year, earning a spot on the First-Team. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named Bilal Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Bilal broke several school records en route to becoming the Storm's first 2,000 yard rusher. He ended the year tied for lead nationally in rushing touchdowns with 29 and second in rushing yards with 2,091 on just 254 carries (8.2 avg.). Against Ohio Dominican University, Ferris State University and Michigan Tech University- three teams that qualified for the NCAA playoffs- Bilal totaled 626 yards and six touchdowns.
Hale was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad after his sophomore year with the Storm. He finished the year with the third most tackles for the Storm with 67. Hale also had one sack and 6.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. He picked off three passes, including two in the fourth quarter at Notre Dame College to seal the Storm victory.
