Storm Falls at #3 Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, Mich.— The Lake Erie College football team fell at third-ranked Grand Valley State University 55-7 Saturday (Sept. 10) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

The Lakers jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.  After the Lakers scored on the opening drive, the Storm chained together three first downs before stalling out in Laker Territory. The Lakers' offense continued to produce in the second quarter, adding three more scores to take a 42-0 lead into the half.

John Banyasz (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia Station) led the Storm with 41 rushing yards on 13 attempts.  In the air, he completed seven-of-ten passes for 56 yards.  Jonathan Bell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) was his top target, hauling in three passes for 26 yards. Maurice Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Beechcroft) led the Storm defense with five tackles.

After the Storm stifled the Laker offense to start the third, the Storm offense got to work.  Banyasz found Mitchel Tilley (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) for a 58-yard pass.  Banyasz then found Michael Moses (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Carrol) on a fade route for the touchdown.  Austin Baker (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde) converted the extra point to cut the lead to 42-7.

In the fourth, the Lakers tacked on a pair of touchdowns to seal the win.

Banyasz finished the game with finished the game completing 10-of-14 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.  He also gained 31 yards on the ground.  Jordan Morgan (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Northwest) led the Storm with 52 rushing yards on 11 attempts. 

Tilley led the Storm receivers with 67 yards on three catches.  Bell and Moses had three catches apiece for 26 yards.  Moses scored the Storm's touchdown.

Hale led the Storm with seven tackles.  Jacob Turray (Twinsburg, Ohio/College of DuPage) had six while Marquan Richardson (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) had five.  Isaiah Wheeler (Copley, Ohio/Copley/Stark State) had a sack to go with four tackles.

Michael Muzic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) averaged 46.3 yards per punt.

The offense totaled 229 yards, with 130 coming in the air.  They finished with 15 first downs

The Storm returns to action next week against Wayne State University.
