BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lake Erie College football team stayed close to the Ferris State University Bulldogs for the first quarter but a big second quarter put the game out of reach for the Storm. Lake Erie fell to the Bulldogs 42-10 on Saturday (Oct. 22).
Six minutes into the game, Ferris State scored first with a one yard touchdown run. Lake Erie answered with a scoring drive as Austin Baker (Clyde, Ohio/ Clyde) converted a 32-yard field goal attempt. Ferris State led 7-3 after the first quarter.
The Bulldogs used three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to pull away and take a 28-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Storm defense held the Bulldogs to one scoring drive in the third quarter as the Bulldogs added to the lead on a 30-yard passing strike.
To open the fourth quarter, Ferris State took advantage of a Storm fumble and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown.
With two minutes left in the game, Lake Erie found the end zone when John Banyasz (Columbia Station, Ohio / Columbia) scored on an eight yard touchdown run. Baker converted the extra point to complete the scoring at 42-10.
Banyasz completed 19-of-31 passes for 190 yards to lead the Storm offense. His leading receiver, Adam Szaniszlo (Willoughby, Ohio / Willoughby South), caught five passes for 74 yards. Anthony Kukwa (Perry, Ohio / Perry/ Ball State) made four catches for 35 yards.
Antwan Harris (Youngstown, Ohio / Austintown-Fitch) was the Storm's leading rusher with 41 carries on 13 carries.
The Storm compiled 273 yards of total offense, including 190 through the air.
Lake Erie will return to Michigan next Saturday (Oct. 29) as they face the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.
