Green Defeats White in Spring Game

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College football team concluded the spring practice season with the 2017 Green and White Game on Saturday (April 8) afternoon.

The Green defeated the White 60-31 in the annual event.

The White team picked up four first downs in the first quarter but the Green team made three defensive stops along with two sacks. Shevone Hairston (Columbus, Ohio / Marion Franklin) and Jeremiah Byrd (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville) each recorded a sack. The Green team led 10-4 after the first quarter.

Isaiah Wheeler (Copley, Ohio / Copley/Stark State) completed a sack in the beginning of the second quarter for the Green team. After two first downs, Desmon Turner (Cedar Bluff, Ala. / Fort Payne) gave the White team a lead with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. The Green regained the lead when Josh Weaver (Hamilton, Ohio / Fairfield) and Adam Johnson (Naples, Fla. / Lely) combined for a sack. The White team found the end zone on a Javarian Smith (Pontiac, Mich. / Oakland Christian) to Jason Blizzard (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) 18 yard passing touchdown. The Green team ended the half with a sack by Jason Rogers (Laurel, Md. / DeMatha) and an interception by Dylan Starks (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross). The Green team led 26-21 at the half.

Desmond Stanley (Macedonia, Ohio / Nordonia) took the first offensive play in the second half to the end zone with a 30-yard interception return for the Green team. Hairston made his second sack of the game for the Green team. Jimmy Moore (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Mitch Tilley (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) as the White team cut the lead to 34-30. Byrd made a sack as the Green team ended the third with three defensive stops. The Green team held a 42-30 lead going to the fourth quarter.

The Green team controlled the fourth quarter with two sacks, one interception and a fumble recovery. Rogers and Jordan Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / Mayfield) each made a sack in the fourth quarter. Marquail Montgomery (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Atherton) had an interception while Devon Hood (South Euclid, Ohio / Charles F. Brush) capped the scoring with a fumble recovery late in the game. Green won the Green and White game 60-31.

The Storm will open the 2017 season against Edinboro on the road.
