30 for 30: Coach Murphy Inks Strong First Class

30 for 30: Coach Murphy Inks Strong First Class

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – A Storm warning is in effect for football fans in Northeast Ohio as Lake Erie College has inked 30 student-athletes for Head Coach Reilly Murphy's first class. The Class of 2019 is comprised of 22 recruits and one transfer that call Ohio home. The remaining seven are also regional standouts that hail from the Detroit, Erie, and Pittsburgh metro areas.

It was no secret that Coach Murphy is excited about his first class either. As he exited the proverbial war room in the Richie Athletic Center, he belted out a yell after receiving the official word of all 30 players that have signed.

"First off I want to thank the Lake Erie community who all come together to make this 2019 class a reality," said Coach Murphy Wednesday evening. "President Posler, VP for Student Affairs Billie Dunn, Senior VP of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Bryan DePoy, Executive Director of Admission Mike Brown, Director of Alumni Relations Debra Remington, and our Director of Athletics Kelley Kish are just a few of many who sacrificed their departments, personal time, and efforts towards the recruitment of these student athletes.

"I am very excited about the young men who chose Lake Erie College for the right reasons today. These players understand the challenge in front of us and are eager to come in and make an impact fast. Each recruit who decided to join Lake Erie College had other options and chose this program because of the avenues that the Athletic and academic experience can provide each of them. They believe in my vision for Lake Erie and I appreciate them believing in me as much as I believe in them."

Coach Murphy was also grateful towards his support staff that will join him on the sidelines this upcoming season. Within a month, they have come in and canvased the state of Ohio and the bordering regions of Michigan and Pennsylvania.

"I am really proud of my coaching staffs' efforts. We stuck to our recruiting game plan and landed homegrown talent within the three to four hour radius of Lake Erie," added Murphy. "Coach Craig "Q" Kuester did an exceptional job recruiting Cleveland while Coach Phil DeCapito crushed Youngstown. Coach Thomas Swilley and Coach Dylan Starks hammered Southern Michigan, while Coach Sean Lagerstrom and Coach AJ Scott stormed Western Pennsylvania. Coach Rigney held it down in Southeast Ohio and Coach Gino Spadaro was the rock taking things over the top recruiting Cincinnati and Southern Ohio."

The Storm will open up the 2019 on Saturday, Sept. 7 on the road at Mercyhurst. They'll play in the home opener the next week against Davenport.
