(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Saturday will mark the final game for 13 seniors at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium as Lake Erie hosts Findlay in the home finale. The Storm (3-5, 2-3) will be looking to send them out in style with their first win over the Oilers (5-3, 4-1) since the first meeting between the two teams back in 2010.
One of those seniors will be leading the offense as Javarian Smith enters as one of the nation's top quarterbacks. Smith currently averages 262.6 yards per game for the 15th-best mark in the country and second in the conference behind Tiffin's Nick Watson. Last week Smith out-slung Watson with a career-high 469 yards, the second-most in a single game in program history.
Findlay will counter with junior signal caller Matt Winzeler who averages 216.9 yards per game. He's completed 145 passes on 265 attempts for the Oilers.
Looking to bring him down will be Justin Growel, one of the nation's top defensive lineman. He is currently second in the country in tackles for loss with 18. Findlay has an array of talent on the defense with Jack Trombetti and Richard Sheler each totaling 50 tackles. Defensive Back Chris Jefferson also leads the nation with eight interceptions.
Kickoff is set for high noon with coverage available on the Great Midwest Digital Network. Senior Day ceremonies will start approximately 25 minutes before kickoff.
