(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Lake Erie dropped its G-MAC finale to Ohio Dominican by a score of 49-10 in the state capital on Saturday afternoon. After being picked last in the preseason poll, the Storm (3-7, 2-5) will be no worse than fifth in the conference after Alderson Broaddus defeated Walsh this afternoon. The Panthers (6-2, 5-1) kept their postseason hopes alive with the victory.
Javarian Smith had another 300-yard day through the air to lead the offense. He finished the day 35-of-52 for 311 and a touchdown. The score came at the beginning of the second quarter as he found Eric Zokouri on a 14-yard strike to cap a 9-play, 62-yard drive to make the score 14-10.
Unfortunately for the Green and White, it was all Ohio Dominican the rest of the way. The only other points for the Storm came from the boot of Justin Smith who nailed a 40-yarder on Lake Erie's opening drive.
After ODU scored on the opening drive, Jayshon Bester put Lake Erie in scoring position with an 80-yard kickoff return down to the 12-yard line.
Ryan Rains led the defense with 10 tackles. Thomas Covington was just off the double-digit mark as well with nine. Justin Growel added to his TFL total with a quarterback sack for a loss of 11 yards and added another tackle in the backfield for a loss of two.
The Panthers were led by Evan Ernst who threw three touchdowns. EJ Colson also went over the century mark rushing with 129 yards and two scores.
The Storm will conclude the regular season next week on that road at Indianapolis.
