PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Recent Lake Erie College graduate and men's basketball standout Garrick Sims has signed a professional contract to play in Badajoz, Spain with the GBP Badajoz Basketball Team of the Spanish EBA.
Sims joins Chad Hunt, Rick Leasure and Brandon Smith as former men's basketball players at Lake Erie to play professionally overseas.
"I just want to thank my family, friends and the Barberton and Lake Eric College communities for their love and support," said Sims. "It is a dream come true to be able to play professional basketball and continue my career!"
Sims, a 6-9 center, played in 102 career games at Lake Erie, starting in all but seven of them. He averaged 5.9 rebounds per game and 9.1 points per game while shooting 45.6% from the floor. After his freshman campaign, Sims was named to the All-Independent Schools All-Freshmen Team.
This past season, Sims averaged a career-high 12.9 points per game while shooting 50% from the floor. Sims also averaged 6.5 rebounds per game. Against Northern Michigan University this past season, Sims scored a career-high 18 points.
