PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was unable to overcome a first half Malone University run as they fell to the Pioneers, 86-72, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play Thursday (Feb. 5) in Painesville.

After trading baskets to start the game, the Storm went on a 7-2 run to gain a 13-8 lead.  The Pioneers fought back and tied the game at 13.  Tied at 16 with 12 minutes to play in the half, Malone went on a 12-0 run to gain control.  Their lead grew to as much as 21 over the final eight minutes of the half as they owned a 47-26 lead heading into the locker room.

Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) led the Storm with 10 first half points.  Trey Howard (Lima, Ohio/Lima Shawnee) had six points while Andy Bosley (Columbus, Ohio/Orange) had five.  Michael Morris (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) had the Storm's lone three in the opening half.

The Pioneer lead increased to 23 early in the second half but the Storm slowly grinded away, cutting it to 14 eight minutes in.  However, Malone answered with a 7-0 lead to take their lead back to 21.  The Storm once again chipped away at the lead, bringing it down to 15 with five minutes to play.  In the final minute, the Storm brought the lead to 14 but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Bosley led the Storm with 17 points in addition to his five rebounds.  Dudley had 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.  Howard and Morris ended the game with 13 points apiece.  Morris and Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) had four rebounds each.

Lake Erie shot 41.3% (26-of-63) from the floor.  They committed just seven turnovers while forcing 17 from Malone.  The Storm outscored the Pioneers in the paint 36-34 and scored 14 points off turnovers.

The Storm is back in action Saturday (Feb. 5) when they travel south to face Walsh University in GLIAC action.
