Storm Tops Findlay, 79-60

FINDLAY, Ohio— The Lake Erie College men's basketball team picked up a 79-60 win over the University of Findlay in their final road game of the 2014-15 season Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14).

The teams exchanged baskets to start the game until the Storm gained an edge.  Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) hit three-pointers on both ends of a 9-0 Storm as they gained a 13-4 lead.  Shortly thereafter, the Storm's lead grew to 12 following a Roy Alexander (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Ridge) with 12 minute to play in the opening half.  The Storm maintained their lead over the next several minutes, eventually increasing it to 15 following a Collin Barth (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) three-pointer.  Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) followed up Barth's three with a lay-up to bring the lead up to 17.  The Oilers cut the lead to 14 in the final minute as the Storm led 34-20 at the half. 

Dudley led the Storm with eight points in the opening half.  Sean Howard added six off the bench while Michael Morris (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) added six.  The Storm shot 48.1% (13-of-27) in the opening half. 

The Storm's advantage increased to 19 early in the second half with a dunk by Steve Walczak (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) and another three by Dudley.  After back-and-forth action, Barth hit a pair of threes to push the Storm's advantage to 23.  The Oilers went on a 9-0 run, cutting the lead to 14 with 10 minutes to play.  The Storm upped their lead to 17 once again but the Oilers once again chipped away at the lead, bringing it down to 12 with five minutes to play.

Over the next four minutes, the Storm put together a 14-3 run to take gain a 23 point lead for the second time in the half as they sealed the win.

Dudley led the Storm with 25 points, hitting 10-of-18 shots including five-of-10 threes, in addition to four rebounds.  Morris ended the game with 16 points, hitting five-of-six shots, while grabbing a season-high eight rebounds.  Sean Howard scored 15 points off the bench with a career-high six assists and a season-high four steals.  Barth ended the game with nine points.  Walczak, Alexander and Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) had four points apiece. 

The Storm shot well throughout the game, hitting 28-of-53 (52.8%) of their shots including 11-of-22 three-pointers.  At the free-throw line, the Storm converted 12-of-14 (85.7%) of their chances. 

Lake Erie's bench accounted for 32 points.  They owned a 31-30 rebound advantage over the Oilers. 

The Storm is back in at home Thursday (Feb. 19) to kick-off their final home stretch of the season against Tiffin University.
