Dudley Leads Storm to Senior Day Victory over Ohio Dominican

PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College men's basketball team picked up a 70-65 win over Ohio Dominican University on Senior Day Saturday (Feb. 21) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Storm jumped out to an 11-2 lead early on, with Andy Bosley (Columbus, Ohio/Orange), Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Masillon) and Trey Howard (Lima, Ohio/Lima Shawnee) hitting shots for the Storm.  After a media timeout, the lead grew to 15 with back-to-back three-pointers by Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent.-St. Mary) and Roy Alexander (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Ridge).  The advantage increased to 19 following the second media timeout, with Wells and Alexander scoring for the Storm.  The Storm continued to shoot well in the first half, as Dudley gave the Storm a 20 point lead, 32-12, with less than five minutes to play. However, the Panthers cut the lead to nine, 34-25, heading into the half.

Dudley led the Storm with nine points in the first half, hitting four-of-five shots, while grabbing five rebounds.  Wells added seven from the bench.  The Storm shot 42.9% (15-of-35) in the opening half and outrebounded the Panthers 24-16.

Trey Howard increased the Storm lead to 11 with the first basket of the second half.  The Panthers cut the lead to under double digits with a three-pointer but Dudley answered the bucket on the other end with a three of his own.  The Storm offense picked up once again, as Dudley hit another three to give the Storm a 46-28 lead five minutes into the second half.    Bosley increased the lead to 21 with a three-pointer after a media timeout.  The Panthers fought back and cut the lead to six with eight-and-a-half minutes to play.  Dudley hit his fourth three-pointer to bring the Storm lead up to nine.  The Panthers answered Dudley's three with a six point run to cut the lead to three.

Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) increased the lead to five with a pair of free-throws.  After a defensive stop, Howard drove for a lay-up to bring the score to 58-51 in favor of the Storm.  After a free-throw by the Panther, Howard scored his sixth straight point. 

With the Storm leading 63-55 heading into the final minute, Dudley hit a pair of free-throws to bring the lead up to 10.  After a Panther basket, Wells converted a free-throw for the Storm.  The back-and-forth action continued as Trey Howard hit a free-throw to answer a Panther basket.  Ohio Dominican cut the lead to six with a tip-in but Dudley converted another pair of free-throws in response.  In the final ten seconds, Alexander had free-throw as the Storm defense held tough to secure the win.

Dudley led the Storm with 22 points, hitting seven-of-12 shots including four-of-seven three-pointers, while sharing the team-high in rebounds with seven. He also had a team-high four steals. Bosley ended the game with 12 points while sharing the team-high in rebounds with seven.  Trey Howard had nine points to go with three rebounds and three assists.  Wells had eight points and five rebounds.  Sean Howard also had eight points to go with his three assists.  Alexander scored six points while Steve Walczak (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had three points and six rebounds. 

Lake Erie shot 40.4% (23-of-57) for the game.  From the charity stripe, the Storm converted 17-of-22 chances.  They outrebounded the Panthers 39-31.  Twenty-four of the Storm's points came off the bench. 

The Storm is back at home Thursday (Feb. 26) for their season finale against Ashland University.
