CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were victorious over Cedarville University, 88-86.
The game started as a back and forth battle as the teams entered the first media timeout. The lead changed hands six times in the first five minutes of the game. After the timeout the Storm jumped out to a 12-8 advantage with a quick 5-0 run. The run was started with a Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) layup and capped by a three pointer from Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North). The Yellow Jackets responded to regain a 13-12 lead with a 5-0 run of their own. David Dunnigan (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua) hit a layup for the Storm and Lake Erie took a 14-13 lead into the second media timeout of the first half. The teams entered the final media timeout of the first half tied at 32 points apiece. A Storm 5-0 run in the final minute of the first half gave Lake Erie a 44-40 advantage at the half.
At the intermission Lake Erie was led by Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) as he had eight points, and three rebounds. Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) pitched in with eight points and three assists.
Out of the locker room, Howard hit a three pointer for the Storm to give Lake Erie a seven point advantage. Over the next couple of minutes the Yellow Jackets cut the Storm lead down to 53-50, at the first media timeout of the second half. Cedarville went on a 4-0 run just before the second media timeout in the final half, to take a 59-57 lead. Out of the media timeout Lake Erie regained the lead with an 11-0 run. The run was highlighted by Humphrey as he had five of the 11 points, and gave the Storm a 67-59 edge, with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. Lake Erie continued their strong play as they halted every run the Yellow Jackets tried to make down the stretch. The Storm won the game 88-86.
The Storm was led by Scott as he had 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Howard also added 16 points, and three assists. Humphrey came off the bench for the Storm and gave them 12 points, as well as seven assists and a pair of rebounds.
Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Thursday (Jan. 5) when they host Ferris State University with the game set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
