Second Half Surge Lifts Lakers Past Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Grand Valley State University, 73-62. 

Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) got the Storm the early lead as he opened the game with a layup.  After the layup the game as a back and forth battle for the first three minutes as the lead changed hands or the game was tied five times.  After Grand Valley grabbed a six point lead the Storm rallied back and took an 11-10 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the half.  The rally was highlighted by Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) as he hit a three pointer.  At the midway point of the first half the Lakers were ahead 18-16 as both team continued to battle.  The Storm out played the Lakers for a five minute span and took a 29-26 lead with just over a minute remaining in the half.  The strong Storm play was led by Humphrey as he had seven of the Storm's 13 points during the run.  The Lakers answered back with a 9-0 run to end the half and entered the intermission with a 35-29 advantage.

At the half the Storm was led by Humphrey as he led all scorers with 13 points in the half.  Howard pitched in with nine points and four rebounds for the Storm.    

Lake Erie opened the second half with a three pointer from Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) to cut the Grand Valley led to 35-32.  The Storm continued to fight but could not take the lead and entered the first media timeout of the second half down, 42-41.  After the media timeout the Storm tied the game on a three pointer by Howard and took the lead when Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) hit a three pointer.  The Lakers responded with a big run that lasted five minutes and gave them a 65-49 lead.  Lake Erie fought through the end of the game but fell, 73-62. 

The Storm was led by Howard as he had a game high 20 points, and four assists.  Humphrey pitched in with 13 points, and Kynard added 10 points and four assists.  Off the bench, Scott added 11 points on 2-3 shooting from behind the arc. 

Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Thursday (Jan.12) when they travel to take on Tiffin with the game set to tip at 7:30 pm.
