COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were victorious over Ohio Dominican, 87-76.
After The Panthers opened the scoring, the Storm responded with a 9-0 run with layups from Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) and Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South). Lake Erie continued their strong play as they entered the first media timeout of the half ahead, 13-4. The Storm stretched their lead to 18-4 with a 5-0 run out of the break. The run was highlighted by a three pointer from Erron James (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central). The Storm entered the second media timeout of the half ahead by 14, 23-9. After the media timeout Lake Erie went on a 9-0 run and stretched their lead to 25, 34-9. The Storm run was led by Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) as he accounted for seven of the nine points. A 6-0 run by the Panthers cut the Storm lead to 19 and forced a Lake Erie timeout. The Storm maintained their double-digit lead and entered the intermission ahead, 43-29.
At the half Lake Erie was led by Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) as he had 10 points and 2 assists. Humphrey added eight points, on 4-6 shooting from the field.
The second half started as a back and forth battle that saw the Storm hold a 14 point lead, into the first media timeout of the second half. After the media timeout the Panthers cut the lead to 12 before an 8-2 Storm run gave Lake Erie an 18 point lead. The run was highlighted by a pair of layups by Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary). After the Storm stretched their lead to 20, Ohio Dominican went on a 7-0 run and cut the Storm lead to 65-52 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. The Panthers continued to battle and cut the Storm lead to single digits. The game remained tight but the Storm halted all the Panthers late runs. Lake Erie held on to win, 87-76.
The Storm was led by Howard as he had a team high 21 points, three assists, and a pair of steals. Humphrey tied a career high with 17 points, and added three steals. Wells also pitched in with 17 points.
Lake Erie will return to action Thursday (Feb. 2) when they host Tiffin with the game set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
