Storm Defeated by Cavaliers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Walsh, 73-65.

Three different players combined for a 9-2 Storm run over the first three minutes. Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) hit a three, Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) made two jumpers and Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) had a basket. Walsh took a 12-11 lead on a 10-2 run over the span of four minutes. Walsh pushed the lead to five points before Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) ended the run with a layup with 10:38 left. The Cavaliers and the Storm exchanged back-to-back threes, keeping the lead at 24-19 at the second media timeout. Kynard and Scott responded with two baskets that cut the lead to 24-23 with 7:31 left in the half. Walsh pushed the lead to five throughout the final seven minutes. With 2:46 left in the half, Walsh took a 37-32 lead on a jumper. The Storm ended the half on a 6-0 run by Loomis. Lake Erie led 38-37 at the break.

Kynard and Loomis led the Storm with ten points each in the first half.

Walsh began the second half with four straight points, regaining a 41-38 lead. With 15:53 left in the game, Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) tied the game at 43 with a three pointer. The Cavaliers pushed the lead to six before Wells hit a layup with 10:30 to go. Walsh held a 59-52 lead and the Storm got a three pointer from Ryan Middendorf (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota East) and a layup by Loomis. Lake Erie pulled within two points just before the last media timeout with a layup by Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South).  The Cavaliers finished the game strong and defeated the Storm, 73-65.

The Storm was led by Loomis as he had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Kynard led the Storm in scoring with 17 points and three assists.  Scott pitched in with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Storm.

Head Coach Kyle Conley said " Loomis and Kynard both played good games against a solid Walsh team".

Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (Feb. 9) when they travel to take on Ashland.
