Storm Falls to Chargers

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Hillsdale, 92-71.   

The Chargers opened the game as they scored the first five points, before Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) hit a three pointer to cut into the lead.  After a Hillsdale three pointer the Storm took a 30 second timeout.  After the timeout, the Storm cut the lead to three, when Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) hit a layup to make the score, 8-5.  The teams traded baskets and the Storm entered the second media timeout of the first half behind, 17-12.  After the media timeout, Lake Erie cut the lead to two behind a three pointer from Humphrey.  After two minutes of back and forth action the Chargers went on an 8-2 run to open up a 10 point advantage.  The Storm continued to battle and entered the intermission behind, 43-30.     

At the half, Lake Erie was led by Humphrey and Wells as each had seven points.  Erron James (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) provided five points and three rebounds off the bench for the Storm.

The second half started as a back and forth battle before Hillsdale went on a 6-0 run to take a 54-36 advantage.  The Storm continued to fight, but the Chargers increased their lead and entered the second media timeout of the second half ahead, 66-43.  The Storm tried to cut into the Hillsdale lead but all their runs were cut short by the Chargers.  Hillsdale enter the final six minutes of the game ahead by 23 points.  Lake Erie competed hard for the remainder of the game, but fell 92-71. 

The Storm was led by Wells as he had a team high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  Humphrey and Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) each added 11 points for the Storm in the game.  Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) provided a spark off the bench for the Storm with nine points and eight rebounds.   

Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Thursday (Feb. 23) when they host Ohio Dominican in their final game of the season.
