Storm Falls at Central State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Central State, 73-68. 

The Marauders opened the game with the first four points, and the Storm entered the 16 minute media timeout behind, 4-0.  Out of the timeout, the Storm quickly tied the game with a pair of layups by Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South).  The Storm took their first lead on the game when Harrison Riggs (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) made a jumper off an assist from Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's).  Lake Erie and Central State traded baskets for a couple of possessions and the Storm led 9-8 with 12 minutes remaining in the half.  After the timeout, the Storm went on a quick 5-0 run to stretch their lead to 14-8.  The run was highlighted by a three from Ryan Middendorf (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota East).  The Marauders answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 14 points apiece, with just under eight minutes remaining in the opening half.  Central State regained the lead with strong defense, and took a 24-19 edge into the final media timeout of the first half.  The Marauders went on a 12-0 that spanned most of the remaining time in the half. The Storm scored the final bucket of the half, but trailed 36-21 at the intermission. 

Lake Erie opened the second quarter with a quick 5-0 run to cut the Central State lead to 10.  The run was capped when Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) made a layup and converted the three point play with a free throw.  The Storm entered the first media timeout of the second half behind by 14.  A 7-0 run by the Storm cut the Central State lead to 50-42 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game.  The run was highlighted by a Lamont Rhodes (Bedford, Ohio / Bedford) dunk.  The Marauders were able to stop the Storm run, and held a 61-50 lead with 7:10 minutes remaining in the game.  Late in the game, the Storm went on an 11-0 run that cut the Central State lead to three.  The run was propelled by a trio of three pointers from Kynard, Middendorf, and Riggs.  The Lake Erie run fell short, and the Storm lost, 73-68.

The Storm was led by Kynard as he had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 assists.  Middendorf had a team high 14 points, as he shot 50 percent from behind the arc.  Riggs added a career high 12 points, and grabbed six rebounds. 

Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Monday (Nov. 20) when they travel to take on Bowling Green State University, with the game set to tip at 7 p.m.
