Storm Dominates Fighting Scots

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team defeated the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots on Saturday (Feb. 3) by a final score of 106-55.

"I thought we came out with the right amount of energy on our home court," said Storm head coach Kyle Conley. "I was happy with the energy level from us as a team for the contest today."

Lake Erie stormed out of the gates with six straight points before Ohio Valley took a quick timeout. The Storm continued the run, opening a 13-0 lead before Ohio Valley made a three pointer. Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) scored five points as the Storm led 13-3 at the first media timeout. After Ohio Valley scored three points, Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) scored eight straight points on a Lake Erie 14-2 run that spanned three minutes. The Storm led 27-8 with 12:00 minutes left in the first half. Over the next eight minutes, Lake Erie pushed the lead to as many as 36 with a 23-6 run. Michael Morris (New Palestine, Ind. / New Palestine) and Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) each scored five points during the run. The Storm led 50-14 with 4:32 left in the half. The teams exchanged baskets over the final four minutes as Lake Erie led 58-29 at halftime.

Kynard and Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) each scored four points in the first four minutes of the second half as the Storm led 68-35 at the under 16 media timeout. Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) made back-to-back layups as Lake Erie outscored the Fighting Scots 10-3 prior to the under 12 media timeout. After a defensive battle over the next four minutes, Lake Erie continued to distance themselves with a 13-5 run leading into the under four media timeout. Jackson Burdyshaw (Perry, Ohio / Perry) made two three pointers during the run for the Storm. The Storm won the contest 106-55.

"The guys really executed our gameplan today on defense because Ohio Valley is a team with some scorers on it. To hold them to 55 points is a plus for us," added Conley about the defensive effort.

Kynard led the Storm with 17 points, including four three pointers. Humphrey and Thomas each scored 12 points with Thomas adding five rebounds off of the bench. Burdyshaw made three treys for a career-high 11 points. Loomis grabbed six rebounds along with ten points. Morris also scored ten points with three steals. Lamont Rhodes (Bedford, Ohio / Bedford) fell short of a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds in the game.

Conley closed with, "I'm not disappointed in the way that any of the 16 guys played today. Everyone showed great energy and we got contributions from a lot of players today."

The Storm will travel to Findlay for a Great Midwest contest on Thursday (Feb. 8) night at 6:00 PM.
