(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Victory slipped through the hands of Lake Erie as it fell to Ohio Dominican by a score of 76-73 in the first of a four-game home stand. The Storm (13-8, 8-5) had the defending G-MAC Tournament champion Panthers (13-9, 9-6) on the ropes with a chance to tie at the end, but ODU forced a loose ball that no one could control until time ran out.
It took an incredible shooting performance to do the Storm in as well as the Panthers shot a season-best 59.6 percent from the field. Lake Erie countered with Gabe Kynard who scored a game-high 25 points. He was 11-of-24 from the field with four assists and four steals.
After facing an early deficit, Lake Erie stormed back and appeared to have momentum late in the second half. Scott Brogan's layup with just under five minutes gave the Green and White their largest lead at 69-63, but ODU answered with the next nine points. The teams then exchanged leads once more before the visitors executed at the free throw line to create the final margin.
Joining Kynard in double-figures was Lamont Rhodes who had another impressive underneath game with 12 points on 6-of-9 from the field with five rebounds.
The Panthers had four starters in double-figures led by Sam Hickey with 21 points. He was 8-of-15 with three 3pointers. Hasan Vance added 18 points and 16 rebounds.
The Storm will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host Ohio Valley. Tip-off with the Fighting Scots of West Virginia is set for 3 p.m.
