(FINDLAY, Ohio) – Postseason honors are piling up for junior guard Gabe Kynard as he was named to the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region Team Friday afternoon. Kynard was one of just 10 players selected and named to the All-Midwest Region Second Team.
It's the first D2CCA All-Region selection for Lake Erie in the program history. Last week Kynard became the first All-Conference first team selection in the Storm's Division II era.
Findlay's Alex White was named the D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year as the top pick on the first team. He was joined by Bellarmine's Adam Eberhard, Davenport's Dyllon Hudson-Emory, Lewis' Kendale McCullum, and Southern Indiana's Alex Stein.
Joining Kynard on the second team are Walsh's JT Shumate, Ashland's Drew Noble, Northern Michigan's Isaiah Johnson, and Ohio Dominican's Hasan Varence.
In addition to his All-Region and G-MAC All-Conference selections, Kynard was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-Region selection this season. He led the team and was fourth in the G-MAC in scoring with 18.2 points per game while taking the Storm to their second consecutive postseason appearance after setting program records for overall wins and conference wins in Lake Erie's Division II era. He scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, and scored a career-high 30 points against Notre Dame on the same day he passed 1,000 points for his career.
Kynard was strong defensively as well as he ranked ninth in the G-MAC with 1.4 steals per game and 17th with 5.3 rebounds per game. Overall he was third in the conference in minutes played with 33.9 per game and started all 29 games for the Green and White.
