(ASHLAND, Ohio) – Lake Erie dropped its season opener at No. 19 Ashland by a score of 73-55 in the G-MAC/GLIAC Crossover Friday evening at Kates Gymnasium. It's the third consecutive season the Storm and Eagles have opened up with each other.
It was a cold night shooing for the Green and White as they made 30.4% (21-of-69) from the field. Ennis Thomas provided a spark off the bench to lead all Storm cagers with 14 points. He was 6-of-9 from the field with a 3-pointer.
Gabe Kynard was the only other Lake Erie player in double figures with 10 points. He added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals on the defensive end.
Ashland led from start to finish. Kynard led the offense early with three quick baskets in the first five minutes to keep the hosts in check, but the Eagles started to pull away and led 40-27 at the break.
Drew Noble led Ashland with 17 points as he was 6-of-8 from the floor. Aaron Thompson and Derek Koch both added double-doubles.
The Storm will return home and play the backend of the crossover on Sunday against Wayne State. Tip-off with the Warriors is set for 3 p.m.
