PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was picked to finish eighth out of 11 teams in the East Coast Conference according to a vote of the league's coaches. The ECC Preseason Poll was released by the conference office Thursday (Feb. 9).
The Storm made a four-game turnaround in its second season in 2011, posting a 7-7 overall record and 4-6 ECC mark. Lake Erie received 47 points in the voting, just one point behind Chestnut Hill University for seventh place. Ironically, the Storm has beaten Chestnut Hill each of the last two seasons.
Defending national champion Mercyhurst University was tabbed as the league favorite, just ahead of 2011 ECC champion Long Island University-C.W. Post.
Attacker Eddie Plompen of C.W. Post and Mery College goalkeeper T.J. DiCarlo were named the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively.
Lake Erie opens the 2012 season Feb. 25 at Pfeiffer University.
