DANBURY, Conn.—The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was voted to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) regular season title in the conference's annual preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday (Feb. 11).
The Storm enters the season ranked ninth in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches' Poll. Last season, the Storm went 10-4, capturing the ECAC Conference Championship, defeating Seton Hill University 9-7 in the championship.
Several key players return for the Storm this season, including two-time All-Americans Reagan Harding (Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney) and Justin Goodwin (New Westminster, B.C./New Westminster, B.C.). Harding was named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year last season, picking up 52 points on 36 goals and 16 assists. Goodwin collected a team-high 96 groundballs and caused 29 turnovers. Also returning for the Storm is Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg). Bishop was named ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2014 after tallying 32 points on 21 goals and 11 assists.
Goalies Tom Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens) combined to anchor on the top defenses in Division-II last year, allowing just 7.57 goals per game- sixth least allowed in the country.
Following the Storm in the poll was 2014 regular season champion Mercyhurst University. Seton Hill came in at number three, followed by Wheeling Jesuit University at number four. Lindenwood University, Walsh University, Ohio Valley University, and Alderson-Broaddus University round out the rest of the poll.
The Storm opens the season on Feb. 25 at home against Roberts Wesleyan College.
