HICKORY, N.Y.-- The fourth-ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 14-6 Wednesday (March 2) on the road.
The Storm got off to a hot start, going ahead 5-0 in the first quarter. They netted one more before the Bears got on the board. The Storm answered with a pair of goals to move ahead 8-1. The Bears cut the lead to 8-3 before the Storm scored the final goal of the half.
The Bears scored the first goal of the second half. Each team netted three goals apiece as the Storm kept their six goal advantage heading into the final frame.
The Storm kept the Bears off the board in the fourth as they scored two more to seal the win.
Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont./Waterdown/Pfieffer) led the Storm offense with six goals and three assists. He also had four groundballs. Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scored five while assisting on one more. Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) had a goal while Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) had a goal and an assist. Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timone St. Jude), Jacob Mitchell (York, Pa./Dallastown) and Tim Bay (Canadaiagua, N.Y./Canadaigua Academy) each had an assist.
Zach Bruening (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) led the Storm defense with four groundballs and four caused turnovers. Liam Smith (Webster, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), Connor Ryan (Hamburg, N,Y,/Hamburg/Adrian), Shafer and Tom Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) had three groundballs apiece.
Lipomi picked up the win in net, making 13 stops.
Bret Swan (Acton City, Ont./Halton Hills) won 12-of-22 faceoffs.
The Storm is back in action Saturday (March 5) at the University of Tampa.
